Clinic detail

  • On-field instruction

This clinic is proud to work in conjunction with several universities and colleges. On Saturday, we break out into groups of 16-18 officials (2-8 person crews + a couple extras) and travel to the area universities to have a pre-game conference, work a spring scrimmage, and have a postgame video review with the instructors.

Participating universities have included: Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, University of Michigan, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Bowling Green, Akron, Kent, Ball State, Wayne State, Grand Valley State, Saginaw Valley, Ashland, Findlay, Hillsdale, Toledo, Marion (Indianapolis), Illinois State and St. Francis (Ft. Wayne). Participating schools are subject to change based on the spring practice schedule.

There will be at least 3 clinicians at each of the sites taking notes on your performance for later review.

  • Replay Instruction

The Replay track includes 2 days of classroom training, ending Friday at 5:00PM. The Replay staff will include officials from the Big Ten and NFL with a wealth of experience both on the field and in the booth.

Instruction will not only address the rules, but the mechanics, philosophies and communication skills necessary for success in the booth.

Participants will review situational video from both College and the NFL as part of your training.

  • Post-Scrimmage Review

Following the scrimmage there will be a video review session of your performance. During this post game review, the observers will critique your overall performance, including rule interpretation, mechanics and positioning, and general field presence.

You will have the opportunity to ask the observers questions regarding your performance. The video review session at the scrimmage site will conclude the clinic.

We hope that you leave your scrimmage with a greater understanding of the mechanics and the philosophies necessary to be a quality college official.

Each participant will get an e-mail copy of your evaluation (if not given to you at the scrimmage site).

  • Application & Fees

You will need to complete the application online then send the appropriate fee along with a PASSPORT photo.

The full fee includes two nights lodging, two breakfasts, two lunches, and two dinners, plus all clinic materials.

We will review the application and confirm acceptance by February 15th prior to the clinic. No acceptance will occur without the completed application.

NOTE: a) Those that have attended a prior clinic do not need to send in a resume and/or schedules. b) Those that attended the last clinic do not have to include a photo. c) New applicants must send a photo.

Our space is very limited and thus we may not be able to accept all applicants. We will accept those applicants who are (1) the most likely to be moving from the High School level to the Collegiate level, or (2) those who are working lower division college games and seek improvement.
